IT’S THE TRT CHRISTMAS TREE ON DIAMOND JUBILEE GARDENS
IT’S LIGHTS ARE GOING TO BE SWITCHED ON BY THE MAYOR THIS SATURDAY AT FIVE O’CLOCK.
You are invited to come and be part of the creation, assembly and decoration of the first Christmas Tree on the Diamond Jubilee Garden from 11 o’clock onwards.
Why is it UNIQUE? Because with the help of scores of local children recycled plastic drinks bottles, plastic bags, wire coat hangers, etc., have been ingeniously transformed into the DECORATIONS and the TREE itself.
Twickenham Riverside Trust, has held two “workshops” on the DJG for children to help create the decorations, with the third and last workshop and festooning of the tree to be between 11:00 and the switching on of the lights at 17:00.
The idea is inspired by the work (including Christmas trees) of a collective called “Magpie” in a small country town in South Africa, whose art works are made entirely from recycled scrap. Two of their chandeliers hang in the Obama children’s bedrooms in the White House.
